M&S Food has listed BOLLE from today, with BOLLE Blanc de Blancs (75cl) and BOLLE still Chardonnay (75cl) available across more than 400 M&S Foodhalls and M&S Simply Food stores nationally, in time for the run up to Christmas.
It is BOLLE's first supermarket listing in the UK, and it follows the brand becoming the first non-alcoholic wine ever stocked by Berry Bros. & Rudd earlier this year.
Most non-alcoholic wine is made by taking a finished wine, removing the alcohol, then adding sugar, flavours or aromas to replace what the process strips out. BOLLE is made the other way round. The wine is blended with fresh juice and returned to the tank for a second fermentation, and it is that second fermentation, rather than anything added afterwards, that builds structure, complexity and mouthfeel along with the aroma and flavour. In the Blanc de Blancs it also creates most of the bubbles in the tank, which are finer and longer lasting than bubbles forced in through carbonation. The still Chardonnay follows the same process without them.
The method is patent pending, and BOLLE is the only producer in the world re-fermenting de-alcoholised wine this way.
Gary Read, CEO of BOLLE, said: "M&S Food set the standard in British food retail, and their buyers are among the most discerning. Being listed by them, just before the run up to Christmas, is a judgement on quality, which is what matters most to us.
"We are not following a trend. We are applying the principles of fine winemaking to make something new, and we are the only people in the world re-fermenting de-alcoholised wine. Alcohol moderation should never mean compromise. What is in a BOLLE bottle has the depth and the structure people expect from wine, because of how it is made rather than what has been added to it."
BOLLE is poured in more than 1,000 venues worldwide, including around 100 restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide. Every BOLLE wine is under 0.5% ABV, with no added sugar, flavourings or aromas.
The full BOLLE range, including the Sparkling RosΓ©, Grand Reserve and Chardonnay Reserve, is available at bolledrinks.co.uk.
